CAUTION: Hold Off Upgrading to macOS 15.4 for a Week

Posted on by Larry

Apple just released macOS 15.4. It provides a wealth of bug fixes and significant security updates, along with a few new features.

NOTE: You will probably see your computer bugging you with notifications to upgrade.

However, as with all OS upgrades, it won’t hurt to wait a few days  before upgrading. That gives early adopters time to find any uncaught bugs.

Personally, I’ll be upgrading when I get back from the 2025 NAB Show later next week. Waiting a week seems like the right time to me.

And, by the way, if you’ve already upgraded, let us know in the comments if you find anything strange.

NOTE: OSXDaily.com has a good summary of the new features and release notes.

I’m not entirely sure, but I THINK that since I upgraded to 15.4, I can no longer move photos from my iPhone 14 Pro to my new iMac. Every time I try to sync, the iPhone is momentarily unmounted and no transfer of files happens. An external drive is also momentarily unmounted at the same time, and the Mac gives me a warning that the drive was improperly disconnected. Also, email messages in the Trash folder of Mail only go back to the beginning of April, even though my setting is to never delete emails in the Trash folder.

Interesting. Please contact apple support. And let us know what you find out.

      • I just updated the iPhone to iOS 18.4 and it seems to have fixed the problem. However now it’s importing photos piecemeal – one at a time, and then I have to quit Photos or disconnect the iPhone and reconnect to import the next photo! Maybe this is a temporary glitch and I just need to restart the Mac. I’ll let you know if it continues. I haven’t been using editing software since the 15.4 upgrade, so I can’t comment on anything there.
